It's Rather Ugly

Experimenting with fabrics for a mystery quilt has, for me this time, resulted in a quilt that I consider rather unappealing. It will be another couple of weeks before I can show the quilt here, because of the mystery class which is the 2nd weekend of October. I will just sneak a couple of peeks at it for you.

It finishes at roughly 38" square, and I am glad I made it because it took me out of my comfort zone. And maybe once the borders are attached I will have a change of opinion. We shall see...

Happy quilting, Friends!

  1. I just picked out fabrics for a mystery quilt too. First one I have ever done. However, I went pretty safe with one main print and some batik like fabrics to go with it. I wouldn't judge your fabrics, yet. I don't think they look bad together and like you said, the borders may make all the difference in your eyes.

  2. I hate it when I don't like a quilt even before it's finished. It makes it seem like a real chore to get it finished somehow. Here's hoping you will like it more when you've got the borders on.

  3. They are different colors, but I think you may be surprised at how it comes together. Will watch for your next update.

  4. My comfort zone is defined by staying away from mystery quilts and staying away from round robin quilts at guild. My preference is the known, not the unknown.
But I've tried both a couple times. None of the resulting projects are my all-time favorites, but I'm glad that I tried something new.
Anything with that purple Kaffe fabric has a great foundation. Looking forward to your next steps.
