Goodies for a Baby Boy

A week or so ago, I shared here a baby quilt I made in the "race quilt" style with a jelly roll. The pic I used was a bit dark, so I've edited it to brighten it up a bit. Here's the improved view.

I had about a half a jelly roll left over from the quilt I made 2 years ago when Sharon's grandson Flynn was born. I even had the batting set aside just waiting on the birth or pending birth of the next baby boy in my circle of friends and acquaintances. I am going to a Super Bowl sale tomorrow at our local Ben Franklin to buy some flannel for the backing. Then I will get busy quilting. (I seem to be on a roll with machine quilting these smaller projects--strike while the iron's hot, I suppose!)

Even after making this quilt, a bit of the jelly roll remained, so I decided to make a matching changing pad. It's all finished and ready for the baby shower. (This pic is unedited, but it's all the same jelly roll.)

This changing pad measures a little over 21"x25" and will suit quite well for baby's needs. A bonus gift! Just the kind of surprise I like! I will wrap this up along with a couple of packs of diapers, and Voila! Gift is ready to go.

Table Runner Finish

Yesterday, I had an entire day to sew and tackle some things on my list. The most satisfying was being able to finish the table runner I started right around Christmas.

This was such an easy project and there's really no reason why it should have taken me so long to finish it except for the fact that I kept returning to the UFOs and to a few things that HAD to be finished. This had no real deadline, so it had to wait its turn.

I was also able to work on a couple of other things as well. I quilted the missing row on the project in yesterday's post about the Sunday Best Schnibbles. I am back to quilting on Long Road Home - it's downstairs again, and I'm working on it while we watch reruns of some Buckeye football games. I am also able to say that I finished another little project, and I will share that with you tomorrow.

A UFO No More!

Yes, I know it's 2015. Yes, I also know that we've moved on to a new year of participating in a UFO Challenge.

But a finish is a finish, and I am celebrating, let me tell you. This was a UFO that I had on my 2104 list, and I just never got around to getting it done. Doggone it - I am such a procrastinator.

At Terry's on Wednesday, I quilted this Schnibbles quilt top that I made way back in 2010. Here is a link to the post I wrote about it. Gosh, that seems like ages ago!

Here she is! It's called Sunday Best, and it was really fun to make. I seem to remember the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics was on when I was finishing this up. Vancouver? Would that have been in 2010?

Hmm, I think I missed a row on the front section. I did not see that until looking at this picture. I need to get back to the sewing machine. No procrastinating, either; I will do it today. Promise.

Here are some more views.

I sure am glad to be done with this. I don't know why I make such a big deal about finishing some things. I can do this, but maybe sometimes I doubt my skill, so I just put it off and make the prospect of finishing it even more daunting.

Onward, quilters! Onward!

Farmer's Wife Close Up

Yesterday, several of us spent the day at Terry's sewing. She has a spacious family room where 2 or 3 tables can be set up and machines can be plugged in to extension cords. In the kitchen we have a cutting station and an ironing board. All very cozy and accessible.

I will show you what I worked on tomorrow. Today, I prefer to show off for Terry. A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of one of her finished UFOs - the Farmer's Wife Quilt. Yesterday, we dragged it downstairs to her bedroom and spread it out so that it could have a proper picture taken of all its beautiful glory.

A feast for the eyes, isn't it? I gazed and gazed at the variety of blocks, fabrics and colors. Surprises everywhere.

We had an unusually sunny day for as cold as it was, so the sunshine in the windows wreaked havoc with my exposure. This is the best I could do from this angle. (Note to self: take a photo editing class sometime.) Do you see the little busy-body on the chair in the distance? Miss Millie doesn't miss a trick in this household; she is just sure that whatever you are doing MUST involve her in some way. Millie just turned 3, we were informed, so she is officially an adult dog. Yeah, right. She still exhibits a lot of puppy tendencies. *grin* That's what makes her so much fun.

And lest you thing Chuck would be left out, have no fear! He plopped himself right down in the middle of our photo shoot and posed for us. There must be a sixth sense for cats when a new quilt is spread out on a bed. Our Gracie does the same thing--makes a bee-line to it. Must be that curious cat thing we have all heard about.

We had a great time sewing at Terry's. Besides myself and Terry, Sheryll and Sharon P. were in attendance. I have no pictures of anything anyone worked on, but I did get a UFO finished, and will share that with you tomorrow.

A Wall Hanging for Mom

At Christmas time you may recall the unique gift exchange our family did. We offered coupons with a gift of time or talent, drew them randomly, and could steal if something we really wanted had been drawn earlier by someone else. It is a lot of fun, at least I think so. Here's a link explaining it more fully.

Above is the gift I entered into the drawing and my mom was the lucky recipient!! Yaay, Mom! We sat together for a bit and looked at some Pinterest images so that I could get a feel for what she wanted. She said she'd prefer to have a wall hanging, so this weekend I began working on this gift.

I've had this book for several years, and love looking at the sweet little quilts in it. It is well suited to using Charm Packs (thus the name), so I decided on a pattern I think Mom will like.

This quilt is small at 18"x21", so I think I will add a few rows to make a more suitable size.

Prepped for marking the diagonal line.

A wide variety of 2 3/8" squares.

Ready to cut.

I used two Charm Packs. I have yet to decide how big I will make this wall hanging, so I expect I will have leftover HSTs. And that's okay because I get a feeling that I will want one of these for myself, too! *grin*

A growing stack of HSTs. It's fun seeing the colors pop out of the browns and beiges.

So, I am happily stitching on a NEW project! The UFOs are still there, and I will get back to them, but I am really glad to be working on something different for a change.
