Sew Along Update - Week 10

Sharon's work will be the feature of this week's update, and you are sure to love her dreamy quilts! And as an added bonus, she has a very cool trick for creating light fabric when the supply is running low.

The two of us seem to have a penchant for using dotted fabrics in our sashings. This is becoming quite a preference in mine, for sure, and now I see that Sharon is using dots, as well. Here is a look at her first Spring Dreams quilt. Same fabrics in the 9-patches, and pink as sashing. What a difference the sashing color makes.

This particular dotted fabric is by American Jane,  but it's a line I do not know, at the moment. It pairs so very pleasingly with the Paris Flea Market florals and paisleys.

I'm showing a lot of close up shots for a reason. Sharon was stumped for certain fabrics as she pieced these blocks, and I wonder if you can discern what she has done to compensate? Here's a few more.

If I show you the back of a couple of blocks, I think you will clearly see how she creatively solved a problem.

Sharon found that she was running short of neutrals to use in the 9-patches. Rather than buy more fabric or dig around for suitable substitutions, she merely flipped over a few squares and used the back as the front. Did you notice in any of the close up shots up above? It is entirely not noticeable. But once you know, you can probably go back and figure out which blocks are backwards. Very cool trick, right? I have only see this done intentionally once before - by Kaffe Fassett.

And just like that, a problem is solved. No sweat! There is nothing to worry about when the only person you have to please is yourself, right?? The quilt police don't hunt us down and exact corrective measures on us. Design choices!

And with that positive note, I hope you are enjoying all your own design choices as you work on your version of Spring Dreams. It is such an easy quilt to piece and to construct. Working on a quilt that turns out so beautifully and yet takes such minimal effort has been thoroughly delightful, IMO.

If you are making one, please feel free to share it here by commenting or emailing, and to post it to Instagram. I have been using the hashtag #springdreamsquiltalong on all the photos I've posted to IG. Feel free to add yours to the group. And also be sure to tag us, so we'll know you posted! Our handles are @diricaoni, @marmysusie , and @jaynehonnold.

Happy Quilting, Friends!
