First Lake Effect Stitches

On Friday at our first 2018 meeting of the Frankfort Girls, I took my first stitches on Lake Effect, the pattern by Minick and Simpson that I have been prepping. I first saw the pattern over a year ago, bought fabric for it on a shopping trip during our Canter's Cave retreat, and began cutting and glue-basting through the past summer and fall.

That doesn't look like much by itself, but when a gazillion of these elongated hexies are sewn together, the name Lake Effect is totally appropriate. This is one of those patterns I wish I had thought of. It is so obvious that a variety of blue, green, gray hexies sewn together will result in an impression of water. Below is the pattern. I have seen pictures of the quilt finished, and it is absolutely breath-taking.

I bought my digital pattern from Fat Quarter Shop; this is a screen shot of the pattern front. It's poor quality, but you can get a feel for what I am making, at least.

I know the pattern name is Lake Effect, but I have occasionally referenced it (by accident) as Mirror Lake. Buckeye fans in the reading audience will know Mirror Lake - the famous lake on the Ohio State campus that students jump into each November on the night before the game with TTUN (that team up north). The tradition has recently been discontinued, but OSU fans do know Mirror Lake - - maybe I should just call my version Mirror Lake?

Pardon that digression...

Since we Frankfort Girls sew together every other Friday, I have decided that this will be what I take with me every time. It gives me a ready-to-go project every time, and I will be steady with my progress. Of course, I can work on it at other times, too, and I probably will. Yay!
