Doll Quilts

A blog I follow called Reproduction and Antique Quilt Lover is sponsoring a show and tell featuring little quilts or doll quilts. And, to sweeten us up to participate, she is giving away fabric. How can a girl resist??

So I thought I'd show off a couple of little quilts in my collection. One is made by my daughter and the other is made by my mother.

First, DD's. When she was small it was hard to find time to get any sewing or quilting done. Moms usually figure out pretty quick that we have to keep the little one occupied. This is the result of that effort. The hearts are cut quite crudely, the stitches are chunky and uneven, we didn't even try to fold under raw edges. She really did play with it, and it's wonderful.

Another doll quilt is one that my mom made and dates from the early-to-mid 1960s. I remember playing "house" and using this to wrap my dolls in. It is a whole-cloth quilt - the binding is bias tape that has frayed from years of use. The fabric is wonderfully graphic, so typical of the 1950s. The quilting is by machine on the diagonal. Gosh, is it special. This quilt hangs in my sewing room.

So, I will be adding at least one of these - maybe both - to the doll quilt show at tell over at Taryn's blog. Perhaps you'd be interested in seeing the others? Just click the link above to go check out the show.

My thanks for November 8:
I am thankful for my favorite place on earth--my home.

Happy Quilting, Friends!

  1. They are both wonderful, full of love and used as they were meant to be. Thanks for sharing them with us.
