Last Friday morning, the Frankfort Girls met at Jan's house. While we love visiting each other's homes, it is always a particularly special treat to go to Jan's because she is a party planner extraordinaire. Give her a reason to throw a themed party and she will go over the top. The rest of us do the basics and Jan does the razzmatazz!
The date on Friday was May 5 - Cinco de Mayo. Yes, we had a breakfast fiesta. Her table was a colorful feast for the eyes. Delightful!
Favors and food, all theme-oriented, were perfect. Burritos of scrambled eggs and cheese, desserts (not shown) of cherry tacos (made with wantons for the shells and filled with cherry pie filling glazed with icing). The water bottles wore serapes and sombreros; table favors included cactus key chain, a candy-filled cactus cutout, a cactus-shaped notepad and cactus-decorated chocolates from a local merchant. Fun and festive.
The second highlight of the morning was Sheryll's show and tell. This quilt is drop-dead gorgeous!
Feast your eyes on Princess Feather, a UFO from the depths of Sheryll's sewing room. She tells us that she made this quilt top about 20 years ago after attending a workshop. She'd always had the intention of hand-quilting it, even going so far as to mark portions of it, yet never did actually begin quilting it. And then it languished. Like so many of us do, we get to a task we are reluctant to tackle and then relegate a beauty to the back of the storage closet or the bottom of the bin.
This UFO is on its way to becoming an heirloom!
Recently, Sheryll decided that if she were ever to enjoy this quilt in a finished state, she'd have someone else quilt it for her. And now it is done! I bet at this very moment she is finishing the binding. Take a look at these detail pics! And then there's the back! Just plain stunning.
Sheryll is a member of the Circleville Quilt Guild and through that affiliation, she had learned of another guild member who did custom machine quilting. Pat Robinette did a thoroughly jaw-dropping job on this quilt, and I'm sure Sheryll is more than pleased with the results. What a work of art. I think I can safely say that Sheyll is beyond thrilled to have this gorgeous quilt finished and added now to her extensive collection of quilts.
I did a Google search of 'princess feather quilt' and found several beauties, but none that had this quilt's border details; I was hoping to discover the designer and pattern maker for Sheryll's. From the results of my search, though, it appears that several similar options are available, if anyone is interested in making their own Princess Feather quilt.
Can't we all admit to having a potential heirloom quilt lurking in storage somewhere in our sewing rooms? Seeing this in all it's finished glory gives me reason to find my hidden treasures and get them finished!
Happy Quilting, Friends!
Wow, what a feast for the eyes Jan's tablescape is, and the food sounds delicious. Sheryll's Princess Feather quilt is glorious. The custom quilting is superb. A most amazing heirloom. It sounds as if you ladies enjoyed the best time together.
ReplyDeleteKim, I wish you could join us for one of Jan's meetings. She claims she is not a "kitchen" person, yet her party-planning expertise tells be she does on occasion work out of her kitchen!
