Home Again

We took off on Thursday morning for a 3-day, 2-night getaway to northern Ohio. It was eventful in a number of ways, both positive and not-so-positive. All in all, though, we had a wonderful time and I will share pics tomorrow, providing I get some time to select and edit them tonight.

I can share a couple of quick things today, though. I just checked my blog from Thursday and my one commenter informed me that I'd won a "just because" give-away from Beth at  Love Laugh Quilt. How nice! She had asked readers about their plans for summer vacation; I responded and won a magazine in which she has a pattern featured. Here's the screenshot from my phone.

We are having the most gorgeous weather today, and this morning we enjoyed quite a refreshing walk on the Frankfort bike path. Absolutely delightful!

I am trying to stay busy today as I have the Frienzie girls coming here for dinner on Tuesday evening. I want to tidy up today, cook tomorrow and take it easy on Tuesday. We will see how that plan works out. Even with the housework, I do want to take some time before the day is over to stitch this little hexie that has been calling to me. Isn't it a pretty thing?

Since I have things to do, I will sign off on a short post today, but promise to bring pics of both Put-In-Bay and Cleveland in some upcoming posts. This is the last week of the month and I have some list items to finish off for June. Too much playing and not enough working for me this month, I fear. Hopefully I can get lots done this week!

More Walking

Yesterday, I shared pictures of the bike path where DH and I have been walking. Today, I want to share a few pictures of the wildflowers that I've photographed along the way.
I have collaged the pictures because I have taken so many. I don't think it is necessary for me to narrate each collage. They are flowers, and struck my fancy, so I snapped a shot. Now I should add that sometimes just leaves are pretty enough to photograph, as are berries and wild grapes.

I also promised to share with you my miles logged this summer. I am proud of these numbers, friends! Now the trick will be to keep it up as fall semester continues and colder weather arrives.

May
36 miles
June
43 miles
July
70 miles
August
103 miles
September
63 miles
Total
315 miles

How about that August total?!? Impressive, I know. *wink* I really worked to get over the 100-mile mark, let me tell you. It came down to the very last day of the month.

So, tomorrow, instead of meeting with the Frankfort girls at Terry's, we are all going to a quilt show in Granville. I have no details, and have not searched for any, either (time is precious when teaching!). Then on Saturday, I will be quilting at Greenfield's annual History Day sponsored by the historical society. To top off a busy weekend, Friday is my mother's birthday, and Saturday is my husband's birthday! The Buckeyes play Saturday night, and Sunday we will go to Columbus to have a belated birthday lunch with DD Erin and her fiancé, Jeff. Sunday night, the two couples that we saw the Eagles concert with are coming over to watch the Eagles documentary that we have saved on our dvr.

There won't be much walking will there?

Taking a Walk

Last summer and fall, DH and I were in the very healthy habit of walking daily. (Well, I should say that I walked and DH ran. He's been a runner all his life, ran with his kids when he coached and continues to run now in retirement.) Anyway, for simplicity's sake, I say that we go walking.

As I came down with nearly incapacitating sciatic nerve pain in early November and didn't get relief until well into February, we got out of that habit. The winter weather plus the fact that I taught 2 mornings a week was enough to keep us in for a few more months.

I am happy to report that we have been getting back into the walking habit again! We prefer to go early in the morning, so we have it done and the whole day free to do whatever happens to be on the agenda.

We drive about 6 miles over to Frankfort to walk on a very nicely maintained bike path. Yes, I know we have perfectly good roads right here that we could walk on, but we don't seem to be as faithful as we ought. Anyway, here is what our path looks like at 7:30 in the morning.

We have had some wonderful weather and the mornings are just the right temperature for getting out there. At first, I was winded just doing 1 mile. Sitting all winter with that sciatic business really took its toll. In recent weeks, I have worked myself up to 3 miles now and I plan very soon to move up to 4. It's becoming a real pleasure to be out there and getting those miles in. There's enough variety in the scenery that it never becomes tedious.

On Tuesday morning, I found this lonely little flower growing out of the gravel. I'd never seen any of these before, but I determined that it must be a wild poppy.

Yesterday, I found others, not nearby, but also on our path. There are actually a lot of them. Very pretty and a very pleasant addition to our scenery. (Yes, that's poison ivy just behind it.)

I keep track of the miles and the days I walk. I saw a pinterest post that said taking an hour every day to exercise is just 1/24th of your day. That perspective is helpful in keeping me motivated.
