Goodbye, Florida

We are packing up and pulling out of our Moonrise Resort winter home for another season. T-minus +/-36 hours until we are on the road and headed back to Ohio.

The sewing room was the first room to be packed, as my sewing machine completely gave up the fight. It is a small, light weight machine, and I have used it like it was made for heavy duty. I am holding little hope that it will be able to be fixed. 

Since machine sewing has been out of the question for about a week, I have actually returned to Lake Effect and have begun addressing the border corners - back-basting applique is in progress!

Since this quilt has been a guessing game on how I connected most elements in this quilt, I will do my best to hide gaps in vine connections with leaves and berries. In reacquainting myself with back-basting applique, I did find that I picked up that skill rather easily; I actually look forward to the possibility that I might work on this in the car as we drive home.

Another winter in Florida - hard to believe it's over already. We sure have had some good times - biking, boating, shuffleboarding, thrifting, exploring, all the while making new friends and enjoying long evenings of playing games and dining out. 

I will try to come back with a post to finish March with a collage; I hope I can make one more post before month's end.

The Tiniest Bit of Slow Stitching

I happily share my tiny bit of slow stitching. Even a little bit of hand work is better than no hand work at all, right?

I have absolutely no idea how this applique posey will be used. Several years ago, I was just sorta' playing around with some EPP and made about a dozen of these in various color combinations. I then set them aside and moved on to hexies for a quilt that did have a plan - Grandmother's Flower Garden. 

Once all those GFG hexie flowers were made, I felt I needed to practice how I would applique them to a background. (I'd already decided that I wasn't using more hexies to join my flowers.)

For practice, I used these little posies. It has been fun - and easy - and I am now considering how I might end up actually using these little pretties. A table topper? Doll quilt? Wall hanging? Sides of a pouch or a bag?

 

So that is the extent of my Slow Sunday Stitching. Even a little bit goes a long way to resting one's brain and easing one's stress. I will link up with Kathy and her weekly slow stitching gang. I am sure there will be many inspiring offerings on display!

Slow Sunday Stitching

Gonna' have to be short and sweet today, Peeps, as DH and I are preparing to take off for a little Hocking Hills getaway.

I'm taking only one little bit of stitching, and it will be super fast and easy.

This EPP flower will be stitched to the background fabric. I've prepped the background (7" square) by folding for center. Then glue-basted the flower in place.

Why am I working on something never before shared here?

Basically, I am practicing for a bigger job. I made just a few of these awhile back and really never had any particular project in mind for them. I will applique the Grandmother's Flower Garden hexies to plain background fabric, and thought maybe a trial run would be wise.

I've done a couple already and it's pretty easy stuff; no need to be concerned when it comes time to do the GFG hexies.

Back-basting applique is my preferred applique method; I've tried lots of other methods that were not as easy as this.
