Blah

I've come down with the worst sore throat, doggone it! I feel just lousy, I tell ya!

No, I'm not looking for a pity party. I just don't get sick very often, and when I do, I don't deal with it very well. I've had 2 cups of hot tea this morning, along with some toast. It felt very soothing on the raw throat, so I expect I'll be brewing up some more soon.

I had planned to take you on a tour of the quilts at Terry's house, but I am going to postpone it until I feel capable of prolonged thought. Right now, I am drowsy and rather pathetic.

Last night, I stitched the binding on my Darcy Schnibbles which I've been hand-quilting for so long. It's pinned and ready to tack down. Seems like a good project for me today.

And in the queue, I have the next quilt cut and ready to being.

Making Progress

Hey, quilters. I've been sewing. I don't get around to blogging about it as much as I'd like sometimes, but I am sewing and completing projects. Here is the progress on my Jacob's Ladder.

I got to show it to the quilters yesterday when we got together at Terry's house. All I need now are borders. I have a neutral I want to use, but beyond that, I have nothing. I was thinking of a narrow neutral and a wide red, but I might consider a brown for an added bit of interest.

Bonus Quilt

A few weeks back, I finished up the third quilt in my experiment with sizes - the quilt was called Thrifty, and you can read about it here.

Well, luck would have it that I made too many 4-patch units. I had a big stack of them leftover. Hmmm, what to do with them....

I decided to do a Jacob's Ladder quilt. I scrounged around and located several tan/neutrals and several dark reds/burgundy fat quarters. And then I got busy. Triangle units galore!!

And voila! Just like that, I'm on my way to a totally unplanned, but very exciting new quilt top!

Whoo-hooo!

History Day Quilting

On Saturday I volunteered for the day at the historical society's History Day - I quilted! Yeah, some  hardship, right? :-)

I enjoy this event; it's my 3rd year for doing this, and I look forward to it each year. As folks mosey along past my little spot in the building, I hear a variety of stories. Some will tell me about a quilt that they were given that some great grandmother made; another will talk about a beloved ancestor who quilted from old shirts and dresses; still others talked about wishing they could quilt or that they wished they had the patience for quilting. Such variety!

I actually did have one woman take me up on the offer of sitting down with me and trying a few stitches. Wow! She took out all her stitches, but I was so pleased that she was willing!

I'm thinking that Long Road Home will be a long winter's quilting.

SWF at Terry's

If you are needing help getting motivated to stitch, then this is the post for you today. Terry had a day of sewing at her house yesterday, and a total of 6 of us were in attendance. Man-oh-man, is there a LOT of fun stuff coming together!

 

Sharon O. was appliqueing a Halloween wall-hanging.

 

Sheryll was also in Halloween project mode. She was working on the quilt on the cover of this book.

 

Every time I looked over at her machine, Sheryll had an assembly line of pieces lined up for stitiching. She will have this done in no time, I have no doubt.

 

I am sure some of you recognize this bit of gorgeousness. Terry was finishing up her Generals' Wives quilt. I MUST make this quilt someday. I have loved on it ever since first seeing it almost a year ago. Here's more of Terry's work.

 

At the end of the day, Terry spread the quilt top out on her bed - oh no!! Do you see the unsewing she is going to have to do?? I could sense her discouragement, but she's a go-getter, and I imagine this will be corrected pronto!

 

 

 

Monica was working on a BOM from this book. The block is called Blind Man's Fancy.

 

 

Quite an involved block, isn't it? I am unsure if she is making more of this same block, or if her BOM is different each month.

 

 

JoAnn spent the better part of her day playing with fabric. Her intent is to make this quilt - or at least a major part of it. So she was digging through a bin of fabric, putting combinations together for many of the pieced blocks.

 

My project involved these leftover blocks from the last Thrifty quilt I made a few weeks ago. I dug around in the stash and located several tan-neutrals and burgundy-reds to add to these 4-patch blocks. I will be making something along the line of a Jacob's Ladder. And I will share pics in a later post. *wink*

 

The bonus of the day was the show and tell from Terry and Monica, who had been to a quilting event in Iowa at a shop called Country Threads. OMG! You are now in for a treat!

This one is a bit blurry, but I think it's evident that it's a Courthouse Steps/Log Cabin-style block. I believe it was one of Terry's finishes from the workshop.

 

 

This Jelly Roll Race Quilt is Terry's. I notice that she did her seams on the bias, whereas the ones I've seen have all been straight seams. Interesting change up; I like it.

 

Terry was on a real patriotic streak with the following three beauties.

 

 

 

 

Quite inspiring, isn't it? I should add that they came home with numerous oh-so-gorgeous kits and a stack of patterns that had me drooling! I am so ready to get things sewn - how about you??

So Behind!

Here's a post that should have been issued a week ago. Last Tuesday, JoAnn came over for some quilting (it was Frankfort Girls' sewing day, but we had a big snafu in the scheduling department; and that's all I'm going to say about that!)

Anyway, there were just the two of us - JoAnn and me - but we just visited and sewed and ate coffee cake like any other sewing day! I even had a 2nd cup of coffee - rare for me!

JoAnn worked on binding this wall-hanging. It's still not quite finished, but don't you just love it? If you recall, she bought this kit when we all traveled to Lebanon awhile back for a quilt show; then we saw her machine quilting it just a few weeks ago at a sewing day at Terry's house. Now it's almost ready for hanging!

I spent the morning picking out those Lone Star points I showed you all in a recent post. Dreadful work, but made so much more pleasant with friend over to visit with - curbs the grumbling, you know.

Off to Terry's today for more sewing. My machine is ready and I've got not one, but two, projects I can work on!! Yay me!

Lone Star Chatter

I am home from a day of hand-quilting for the historical society. It is such fun to see people and visit.

I made a new friend, Rita, who said she would love to learn to quilt. So while she pulled up a chair, I threaded a needle for her, and right there on the spot, she tried her hand at it! I am sorry to report that she took out all the stitches she made, but wasn't it great for her to try? I told her to keep practicing, and she would get the hang of it. I hope she does.

My intent was to check in on the QAL festivities here today through my ipad, but alas, the day was too busy for me to follow through on that. I'm here now, and it looks like Elizabeth and Sue have things well under control. Thanks, ladies!!

Interesting conversations today included 2 with different women about Lone Star quilts! It was almost freaky when the 2nd gal began describing her "unfinished quilt in the closet" and I came to realize it was a Lone Star!!! Twice in one day, I had women describe these unfinished quilts, and both quilts were Lone Stars - incredible, really. Makes me wonder what glorious quilts are hidden in various closets throughout this land. Can you imagine?

So I have Long Road Home in the big frame, Darcy Schnibble in the little frame, a Lone Star with some resewing needing done, and at least 3 quilts in various stages of production upstairs in the sewing room. Wonder what I will work on tonight? Heaven only knows...
