Bridal Quilt Delivered

The newlyweds have surely celebrated 6 months of wedded bliss by now, and at last they have the quilt that Sharon and I made for them.

Back in the summer, Sharon and I cooked up a plan to whip out a quilt fast-fast-fast for our friend's daughter. Dee, the friend, was involved in the color selection and helped with passing info back and forth as to Liz and Brian's various preferences. We came up with very large HSTs in peach, mint green, light gray and white. These were the wedding colors, too, by the way.

When all three of us (Sharon, Dee and I) met in Columbus earlier this month, we handed off the quilt to Dee. She then held it until the following weekend when she'd next be seeing Liz and Brian. And now the circle is complete.

Wayne the dog doesn't look too impressed, but Liz and Brian seem very pleased. We weren't as fast-fast-fast as we'd hoped, but we eventually delivered on the gift.

Dee has been making a couple of baby quilts for some of Liz's friends - I will soon post some pics of those, so stay tuned!

Wedding Quilt Progresses

Sharon was here yesterday and we have Liz's wedding quilt ready to send to the quilter. The only job left was to press the top and prepare the back. If I do say so myself, I think the back looks pretty darn spectacular.

Is this not awesome?? We had extra blocks and decided to piece the back with them. We found the chevron fabric on sale at JoAnn's and together this is one fantastic quilt back.

 I sure hope Liz and Brian have a king size bed - this quilt measures approximately 102" square.

Even though I've shown the quilt top before, I will include a picture here just to have the two in the same post.

It is ready to be delivered to the quilter. Hopefully we can have a quick turn-around time.

Progress Made on Liz's Quilt

Sharon was here on Wednesday, and we made fantastic progress on the wedding quilt we are making for our friend Dee's daughter Liz. I will dispense with the yakkity-yak, and get straight to the pictures.

These blocks are gi-normous! I think they measure in the vicinity of 20-21" square. Last week when we worked on this, we got all the blocks made and mostly pressed. This week we laid out all the blocks and sewed the top together.

This quilt will be a king-size creation. The bed above is a double bed so you can see the enormity of the quilt. We actually have extra blocks (too many is better than not enough!), so we are thinking of incorporating the extras into a nifty pieced backing.

These pictures are of the blocks just laid out on the bed. Trust me - they are now all sewn together and the top is done. It needs an overall pressing and it's off to the quilter.

Gift Fairies Have Been Busy!

Sharon was here to sew yesterday. Our project for the day was to begin a wedding quilt for the newlywed daughter of our friend and former co-worker Dee. The bride is Liz, whose wedding colors were peach, mint and gray. Our quilt will pick up those colors and will hopefully provide impact with large yet simple HST blocks.

We are using solid colors - Kona cotton ordered from Hancock's of Paducah. Here are the wonderful colors.

Our inspiration is a quilt we found on Pinterest. The simple, large and graphic blocks make quite a statement; they do all the work and no prints are necessary.

Depending on how the blocks are laid out, the look is either a pinwheel block or a square in a square. Above are some shots of our early blocks.

We did all the cutting, drawing of diagonal lines, stitching, cutting apart, and pressing today. We began sewing some of the HST units together, but not many. When we get together next week, we hope to be able to have a finished quilt top.

Our sewing days will be switching to Mondays starting next week. Starting next Tuesday, I will be heading back to teaching Freshman Comp at OU-C, and my classes are T-Th this semester.
