Another Bride Quilt

A week ago, a few of the Frienzies got together at Sherrie's house for continued work on Carly's quilt. She will be the next bride - coming in July. Pam's daughter wanted a red and white quilt, and we worked hard on it, but there was leftover fabric!! So we got busy making pillows.

This will be a striking pillow on the quilt - both have strong geometric lines. Here's the quilt (which I think I have blogged about, but I've been discombobulated lately with our own wedding and the aftermath, I can't be sure.)

Quilting With Friends-Part 1

In my long absence from blogging, I have had several days of quilting with friends, both the Frankfort girls and the Frienzies.

Rather than post all of the activity on this post, I will break it down into parts. I will begin with some bridal quilt activity with the Frienzies. As you know, the quilt for my DD Erin is at the quilters, and we were ready to get to work on bride-to-be Carly's quilt, Pam's daughter. She'd requested a red and white quilt, and wait until you see these pictures.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the back of the quilt. Is it not amazing?? We had such fun making this quilt.

The backing is an enlarged version of the individual block! Cool! It took Sherrie's skill at problem solving - or should I say puzzle solving - to figure out all the cutting and sewing. I was on sewing machine duty along with Kay. Pam and Lyn were in charge of pressing and probably some squaring up. We all worked really well on it to get it completed in just 3 days of working together. Below is a picture of just one block.

The pattern, called Metropolis, is from a book Sherrie owns called Modern Patchwork.

Since the back is done, it too has probably been delivered to the quilter. We had some fast turn-around time on this quilt! Carly is having a short engagement, so we needed to work quickly. Here's hoping we can get it all done by the wedding coming up in July.

A Bridal Quilt Takes Shape

I spent all day Tuesday at Frienzie Sherrie's house and together we finished the quilt top that will become my daughter's bridal quilt from the Frienzies. This marked the third Tuesday in a row that various Freinzies have met for this project, and to have completed the top already is quite an accomplishment, if I do say so myself. Now, we did select a very easy pattern, and we did have two machines going most of the time, with another person cutting, and another pressing. Having lots of hands did make the job go fast.

Because it will not be gifted until nearer to the wedding in May, I will just share a couple of tiny, non-revealing pictures, so you can get an idea of the colors and fabrics.

The pattern, from the Kaffe Fassett book Simple Shapes, is called Yellow Potpourri. Because Erin expressly said she would like a blue KF quilt with pops of red and pink, we changed out the colors and everyone is beyond pleased with the result. An additional change we made was to make it wider and more suitable for a bed quilt. The original pattern was quite narrow, but easy enough to change. Do you see the three vertical sections of the quilt center? Well, we made two of the third section. We then arranged the four inner sections in this order: 3, 1, 2, 3.

It’s a good thing we got this one finished quickly, as another Frienzie daughter has gotten engaged. Pam’s daughter Carly has accepted a proposal, and I hear we might be doing a red quilt for her. We Frienzies are churning out bride quilts assembly-line-style these days!
