A Quick Quilting Accomplishment

Gosh, I really got a big boost yesterday by quickly quilting up a quilt I made last April at retreat. I had it mostly loaded onto the longarm, so the tedious business of prepping everything was already done. I was able to pretty much just power up the machine and take off!

Decisions about how to quilt it were primary concerns. I knew I wanted to finish fast, and I knew that this will likely end up as a wall hanging. So I decided to go with vertical squiggly lines that would appear to be parallel, but of course left me with freedom for "almost" vertical lines. I am really liking the results.

My Kaffe Fassett Around the World quilt was inspired by several examples he's featured in some of his books. Mine was created with my own measurements and widths. I knew I wanted to use that striking center panel with complementing colors around it. I chose varying widths for each border, and the end result is - to my eye, at least - very pleasing.

So, the fabric design was a decision made last April. Yesterday's decision was how to quilt it. I do think I made the right choice.

It has been removed from the longarm; now I need to trim it and prepare the binding. I may go ahead and machine-attach the binding. I injured my finger on the very first pass across the quilt and I do believe hand stitching could be tricky for a few days. I sewed right through this finger! In through the fingernail, and out on the other side. Yowzers!

Even with the finger incident, I am exceedingly happy to have been able to quilt this so effortlessly. I hope I can come back and report more equally quick finishes this month!

Happy Quilting, Friends!

  1. It's so nice to have a quick finish! The finger sounds painful though, I'm sure you won't make the same mistake again!
