Celebrating the 4th!

Independence Day! Hope all your celebrations are fun and festive.

Because the biggest part of our home is in upheaval with this master bedroom remodel, the only decorating I’ve bothered with is this table topper on our kitchen table. I made it awhile ago from a free pattern I found on a blog. Here’s a link to when I made it as well as a miniature of the same pattern.

The pitcher contains a bouquet from Sunday when we celebrated our 45th anniversary.

Here's a link to last year's July 4th post; it contains much more patriotic decor.

I’ve just finished stitching the binding on Temecula Baskets, so I’ll have a proper reveal on it this weekend. Additionally, I’ve been mentally figuring the number of 1.5” squares needed for the first border on Tiny 9-Patches. Yes, I’m going for it. I’ve done it right this far; it makes no sense to stop here. Prepare to hear more about that, as well.

Happy Quilting, Friends!

Ready For the Fourth

It's a rare day indeed that ol' Jayne the quilter has a leg up on July 4th decorating. Long before I was Jayne the quilter, I was Jayne the procrastinator. But by gosh, this year I am so ready.

I have red geraniums on the front porch with American flags blowing in the breeze.

Also on the front porch is my new Ohio Star barn quilt in red, white and blue.

On the inside of the house, I have my little Market Day table topper quilted and bound. I wrote it about in this post a few days ago.

And now it has it is joined by its big sister, the larger table topper, also quilted and bound.

I have a couple of older patriotic pieces out also. The Patriotic Spring Dreams from last year's sew along is draped over a chair in the front room. The photos below were taken last year before it had been quilted, but it is done now, for sure. It is made with a lot of my grandmother's patriotic scraps. She was well known for her love of red-white-and-blue items.

Another item I made last year was this pillow cover. I'd really like to go ahead and make a matching one so that I'd have a set. Maybe soon.

We are doing a slow-and-lazy type of celebrating this year. We attended a picnic and fireworks party at some friends' on Saturday night. Tomorrow we are making homemade ice cream for immediate family. Maybe someone will bring some sparklers. Low key, for sure.

Happy Quilting, Friends!

Celebrating!

Folks here in the great USA are celebrating our country's independence today! We are 245 years strong!

Last night we had a cookout and fireworks with friends. Tonight a different group will be doing the exact same thing.

Food! Fun! Fireworks! A winning combination for celebrating.

Back to quilting tomorrow!

Happy Birthday America!

Everywhere I look I am seeing red, white and blue! Hooray! People are feeling patriotic!

We are preparing for a traditional American summertime meal - hamburgers on the grill along with all the fixings, baked beans and chips. Rounding out the menu is a broccoli salad, a dish of strawberries and a chocolate dessert. YUM!

Hope you are enjoying your celebrations!
