Goodness Gracious!

Goodness Gracious! Is that a phrase you grew up hearing? I did. Or more completely, it was "Goodness gracious sake's alive!"

And "goodness gracious" is about all I can say after what happened at the fair on Saturday.

I won a rather surprising ribbon for one of my entries.

That ribbon is something, isn't it? It covers up half of my little quilt! This is one of three quilts I entered. And to be honest, I entered them practically on a last-minute whim.

As I was finishing my 6-Point Star quilt, I had in mind that I would put it in the fair. It was the motivation I needed to keep my efforts focused on finishing it. You can read about my finish here, or do a general search of the blog for '6-point star' for lots of progress reports.

This quilt got a blue ribbon in the hand-pieced/hand-quilted category. That was gratifying news.

I entered my little doll quilt, too; it got a red ribbon.

And then there is my miniature quilt - Pincushion Stars. I began it back in January and finished it in early February. Click here to read about the finish, if you like.

I still have a hard time believing that this was selected for BoS; there were several very accomplished quilters in the same department, so I was definitely not expecting it.

And just so you know that I won't be getting a big head over this, my drive home from the fair served to keep me on an even keel. My car broke down; I had to call a girlfriend to come fetch me as DH was out for the day and a tow truck had to retrieve the car. I still have not heard from the mechanic what is wrong with it. Geesh.

Frankfort Girls at the Fair

Our Ross County fair is just winding down, and three of our little group (which I've dubbed Frankfort Girls) had a great showing in the quilting department. Sheryll, JoAnn and Terry entered several quilts, throws, table toppers and wall hangings and they earned many, many ribbons! Have a look.

Those three were all made by JoAnn. The next group is from Sheryll.

Are you counting the ribbons? They garnered quite a few! This last group is from Terry. Keep counting; she gets a lot, also!

They had a great showing, didn't they? I quilt with some pretty awesome ladies, to be sure! Many of these are folded so small I had to do some severe editing. And, many of these have been shared here before when they were being made. Well done, Ladies!!

A Fair Ribbon

Yes, I know the Ross County Fair has been over now for a month, but I was just putting away my quilt and thought maybe you all would like to see my very first ribbon awarded for a quilt.

I had many categories from which to choose, but the category which suited me best was "Unfinished Quilt."

Rings true with lots of us, I'm sure.

Back in November of 2010, I finished this top. It is simply called Hourglass and it is a Thimbleberries pattern.

 

I was in a blogging funk in late 2010, so I didn't introduce this quilt until January of 2011. If you are interested, you can click here to read a bit about it.

 

So, I took this flimsy to the fair and entered it. Had no idea what I was doing, having never done it before. There was much paperwork to be done! Not knowing any better, I took a second quilt along to enter, but I found out that a person can only enter one quilt per category. Duh. Makes sense that I wouldn't want to compete against myself.

 

Anyhoo, I went back at the end of the week and discovered that I had won third place! I was very pleased, and a bonus! There was a $2 premium to go with it! Now, that is sweet, right?
