Article on the Hillsboro Quilt Show

Another quickie. I just looked at the online Times Gazette from Hillsboro. Here's a link to the article with much of the information that I should have gathered to share in my blog post from Monday.

Later!

Borders On!

I'll just quickly check in to show you the borders I decided on for 9-Patch Criss Cross. This quilt is 100% from my stash, and I think that everything works together pretty well. I finished it up last Wednesday when Sharon was here for sewing.

The 2-inch inner border is a brown Thimbleberries print; the 7-inch outer border is also Thimbleberries. Since the pattern is from a T-berries book, it seems fitting that I used 3 of her fabrics in this quilt.

That's all for today! Tomorrow, I am going to share an Italian pasta recipe. Yum!

Hillsboro Quilt Show

Hillsboro has a quilters guild, and this past weekend held their quilt show. Since I am from Hillsboro, and go over there a couple of times each week to see Grandma and other family, it was, of course, essential that I make this quilt show a priority.

DD Emma and I went yesterday afternoon, and she served as my camera operator. I should have asked more questions and gathered a few more details, so I am going to tell you what I think I know! (Dangerous business with me!)

This is the second quilt show for this relatively newly formed group. Last year's venue was poorly lit, so this year it was held at the brand-new Hillsboro High School, which I had not been in yet. (Don't get me started on how our beloved old school was abandoned and eventually torn down!)

Here are some quilts that were displayed. It was a small show, but they had some really pretty entries.

Patriotic Lemoyne Star
An antique quilt.

Turned out a bit blurry, but I love reproduction quilts!
Stunning! Love that wide, wide border.
Gorgeous star blocks paired with log cabin blocks;
I've seen this pattern recently, so it's a relatively new quilt, I believe.
This looks like an enlarged Schnibbles; I read on the label that it is made with lots of her stash of Thimbleberries fabrics.

Frankfort Girls Update

It was brought to my attention yesterday (thank you, Sheryll!) that I had never posted the show and tell from last Friday's get together with the Frankfort girls. Only 3 of us could make it, but we still had a productive morning.

This spectacular quilt is Terry's creation. The colors and the design meld together so perfectly - it is quite an impactful quilt to see! She machine pieced the top and took it to a friend of hers for quilting. Take a look at the magnificent workmanship.

Hand quilting! Gorgeous! With such easy access to longarm quilting machines, hand quilting is becoming a dying art. I just love the look of this quilt as much from the back as I do from the front.

JoAnn, our hostess, continued to quilt her little wall-hanging, which I've shared before. I continued to bind my 2nd patriotic wall-hanging, which I've also shared before. Short and sweet today, readers!

Hopefully the 5 of us can be reunited this next Friday when we meet at Terry's.

Apparently, We've Been Working Elsewhere

We are not a large quilt along by any stretch of the imagination, but we have had a faithful following. Based on the minimal checking in today, I am going to go out on a limb and say that we have all been busy working on other projects.

And that is totally okay.

When Sue and I started this, we made sure to let everyone know that the first rule is that we have no rules! So if we want to take a break from the Lone Star to work on other things, then by all means, that is perfectly fine!

I for one have been totally busy, but I just have not been ready to face the "unsewing" I have ahead of me on my Lone Star. I fully expect myself to be back to it, though, this coming month.

I will take a moment to give a big shout-out to Elizabeth who has been working diligently on her Lone Star and has a gorgeous quilt top all finished up. She is weighing her options on the quilting at present. Click on her link in the previous post to see the stunning progress.

Signing out for now, quilters! Look for Sue to be your trusty hostess on Saturday, September 1st. We shall reconvene then!
Happy quilting, Lone Star Friends!

Lone Star Saturday - August Update

Hello Lone Star Gals - you who are making a Lone Star with us, and those who are following. I almost forgot about this date this month!

Hey, you'll have to allow me a little bit of slack. The Olympics has had lots of my attention, and I have been super busy making several quilt tops. I am getting a good bit of quilting done on the pink and brown quilt that's been in the frame since 2010. Last night I finally selected the template for my border. I think it will work fine.

But we are here to focus on Lone Stars! If you are sewing along with us, I invite you to sign in on Mr. Linky so that we can see how far you've come. Be sure to leave comments for me so I can follow up.

For anyone reading this who isn't aware of our Lone Star Quilt Along, do a search over there in the search box. In a very short intro, I'm in this quilt along with my cyber friend, Quilt Sue. We are trading months throughout this calendar year to try to accomplish a Lone Star quilt. Hers is a brand new quilt; mine is a 20-year-old UFO. So we are coming from a wide spectrum, but we are getting our quilts done!

My work on it this month, though, has been nonexistant. It is pressed and hanging above my sewing machine, reminding me almost daily that it needs attention on some very rough-looking Y-seam intersections. I must make it a priority in the coming month, as I really do want to have it quilted by year's end.

I am picturing a very ornate feathered wreath quilted in that white field. Cross hatching, too. I think it will finish up very pretty.

On the table there in front are some of the remnants of the quilts/projects I've worked on this month. Red binding leftover from the Patriotic Star wall-hanging. Gold and red 9-patch from 9-Patch Criss Cross. Pile of Farmer's Wife blocks resting on the FW book. I have been productive; just not so much on the Lone Star!!

Today, I am going to be away from my laptop quite a bit. It's the day the quilts are entered into the Ross County Fair, and I am helping in that effort. I will be occupied most of the afternoon. I may take my iPad and attempt to stay caught up with our Quilt Along on it. We shall see how that works out.

Hope you Lone Star gals have more progress to share than I!

Happy Quilting, Friends!

August Already?!?!

Seems impossible that it's August, but yes, that's what the calendar is telling me. Geesh.

I am parading today. I sent a picture of Plan C to the Schnibbles Parade, and you can see it featured over at Pink Pincushion. Go ahead and visit; I'll wait.

Back? Some nice looking quilts, right? I have followed Sinta at Pink Pincushion and her sister Sherri at A Quilting Life since I first discovered quilting blogs. I remember being really surprised when I learned that they were sisters; I'd followed them for a good while before making that connection. Oh, good grief! I've just gotten an email from Sherri; she says they're NOT sisters! How on earth did I get that idea? My face is so red. I apologize for being the source of misinformation. Gosh, how does one correct a cyber error? Sherri and Sinta, I apologize! Readers, my apologies to you, too. How embarassing...

Well, let's take a look at what I've been up to today. After wa-aaay too long, Sharon and I had a sewing day today. She was really booked up through the month of July. We are recommitting to getting back on a regular schedule. She came to my house and worked on the last of her Tag Sale blocks. Remember, she was working on this at quilt camp back at the end of June.

Gorgeous florals. So soft and romantic. Here are 4 more.

I love watching this quilt come together. My own Tag Sale also has a rather cottage-y look to it, so I know Sharon is going to love hers. That tub full of Roman Holiday fabric that I've been reluctant to cut might just be headed to making another Tag Sale - for me!

I have the borders on my 9-Patch Criss Cross, but as I have not taken a pic of it, I will have to get that picture posted tomorrow. Too pooped to do it tonight. Gotta' get to my quilting and the Olympics!
