Retreat Projects By My Friends

Retreats are wonderful in so many ways. Not only do we get several days of uninterrupted sewing time, we are gathered in a large room with other quilters who encourage and inspire us. After several retreats with the same core group of women, we learn each other's quilting preferences and habits. Today I will share some of the projects from these women. 

And, sadly, I didn't get pictures of everyone. Bummer! I just don't think of it in time - self-absorbed, I guess. So my apologies to Helen, Becky and Jan! Help me do better! *waahhh*

My bestie Sharon was super-productive as she finished two flimsies and began a third. First finish was a 9-patch baby quilt for a grand-niece.

 And her second finish was this black and white quilt that she's planned to make for 25 years!! 

I did not get a picture of her third project, but it is another black and white quilt. I am sure I will soon have an opportunity to get some pics as she continues working on it.

Terry was in patriotic mode. We had so much on our plates with this 250th-year celebration in America, it was impossible to make all of them! These will be available for future patriotic holidays at Terry's house.

 

These two were finished flimsies. She began a third quilt that is designed to look like a woven coverlet in faded blues, reds and neutrals.

Lisette, I have learned, likes small quilts (wall-hanging size) with small pieces. So her finishes are really precise and meticulously pieced. First she made this braid-like quilt.

Next she went to work on this darling small quilt, determined to have it finished by the last day. And she did it, too. It looks amazing.

 

Last, we have Susan, who was beginning a block-of-the-month quilt that she hoped to catch up on. The pattern is called Liberty Island Sampler, and this is the center medallion of the quilt.
 

She made additional progress on other blocks, but I did not get any pictures of them.

And that brings us up to speed on the recent retreat. It was a wonderful 4 days.

Retreat - Lisette, Susan & Jan

Our final installment of last week's retreat will include our 3 remaining seamstresses, Susan, Lisette, and Jan. 

Lisette did lots and lots of small blocks for School Girl Sampler. This is one organized quilter - just look at the labeling and orderly stacks.

She also needed to attach a border to this gorgeous quilt. What a great eye for reproductions she has, as seen in the close-up.

Susan finished off a baseball-themed quilt, a snowball quilt and a reproduction quilt with dozens of flying geese units.

 

Susan hoped to finish this quilt and discovered that she did not bring fabric for the last of those flying geese. It's almost done!

Here's the snowball quilt. Her task for part of one retreat day was making a zigzag border. I really didn't pay attention when Susan shared details on this quilt, so I have no further tidbits to add. I do like the looks of the blues with the tans. It's a great look.

And here is her baseball quilt. I think she shopped locally for the border and added it at retreat. She also prepped the backing for this quilt.

Jan worked on 2 quilts from beginning to end - and by end I mean that she not only attached all borders, but also prepared backing and binding for each. 

From this organized and well-sorted supply of parts, Jan built a Courthouse Steps quilt that looks amazing.

After finishing the Courthouse Steps, Jan pulled out a jelly roll project with some panels stitched into each block. The result is a fine looking Christmas quilt.

And that concludes my wrap-up of last week's retreat. What fun we had. The food was great; the conversations were all over the place; we did a bit of shopping; we did some dreaming and wishing for future projects. Successful in every way.

Circleville Quilt Show - 2018

Well done, Good Time Quilters guild, for another great show in Circleville.

I have gone to this show for "alotta" years, and never have I been disappointed. In fact, it's better than ever as the guild now has the most wonderful, wide-open space in the gymnasium at Ohio Christian University.

This is the guild that several of my sweet quilty friends belong to, consequently many of their quilts showed up in the show. Let's have a look, shall we? First we will check out Sheryll's entries. If you look closely, you'll see three 3rd place ribbons. Well done, Sheryll!

I always love those 4-patches (right up there with 9-patches, you know?) and navy, so this quilt is incredibly appealing to me.

This is Sheryll's version of our little block-swap we did last year. Mine is still hanging - unquilted - on my design wall, while Sheryll has hand-quilted hers. It looks lovely, too. Both quilts above were pictured in this post from May when we met at Becky's.

The fact that I am in the midst of making a basket quilt makes me even more appreciative of the effort behind this beauty.

Awhile back - I don't know, a year? two? - the orange peel quilt was popular, and several in our group made it. This post contains an earlier picture of the orange peel quilt. This post is a very different version by Jan.

And speaking of Jan, she had some entries in the quilt show:

As an elementary school teacher, Jan has a real penchant for primary colors as evidenced in this crayon quilt.

This pickle dish quilt was a kit that Jan finished last spring in our '17 UFO challenge. In typical Jan fashion, the original plan to do a certain amount each month became a finished quilt in ONE month! Over-achiever! I have looked for previous pictures of this quilt, but I am coming up empty. This photo certainly does not do this quilt proper justice.

The quilt above is Susan's entry (and I'm sure she had others). This was begun at our Canter's Cave retreat a year ago when we had the Thimbleberries Challenge. (Make any Thimbleberries pattern or use any Thimbleberries fabric or both.) I have made this same pattern, and it continues to be one of my favorites.

The trouble with my doing a post of my friends' entries in the quilt show is that I am never sure I got pictures of them all. Undoubtedly, I have missed some, and for that I apologize and assure these ladies that it was totally unintentional. Sometimes I get side-tracked (who me??), and sometimes people are in the way of the quilt, and sometimes I just plain miss one.

Tomorrow I will post random pictures of quilts that caught my fancy at the show. I also did a bit of retail therapy at the vendors' booths, so stay tuned for that recap, as well.
