Babies n' Quilts

Oh my, this is the cutest pic ever! DD Erin has provided me with a picture of brand new Augustin Infante swaddled in the quilt she made for him.

Little Auggie made his entrance into the world on June 25 via C-section, and weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. He was 20.5 inches long. In this picture he is perhaps about a week old. Erin wanted me to wait and post about the quilt until she could get a good shot of the baby IN the quilt. Sweet, isn't he?

I know you are busy looking at the quilt, but I want to divert your attention to Auggie's hair! Isn't it amazing? Erin called it Elvis hair, but I recall my niece's hair when she was born - we all referred to her Don King hair. Either way, this baby has lots of it!

Here is a newer picture - just a day or two old. Perfectly plump little cheeks, and looking so angelic. Full-out adorable.

Here is the finished quilt prior to washing. Didn't she do a nice job creating that border quilting? She is so clever.

And here is the washed and wonderfully crinkled quilt. I can tell it's soft and smushy. I hope Auggie loves being swaddled in it. And when he is older, I hope he enjoys playing "I Spy" with all the fun creatures and such.

Erin added a bonus gift. We are all Cleveland Indians fans, and I am supposing that Auggie's parents are, as well. Erin took a plain "onesie" and drew the jersey design on the front. More cleverness! I wish I could say she gets it from her mother, but that would not be the truth. We have some artsy types on both sides of the family, but I didn't get my share.

Quilts and babies, gosh what great subject matter! I think Erin enjoyed making the quilt, and she said the new momma was taken by surprise when she gave it to her. I hope they get lots of enjoyment out of it! Wear it out! That would be the ultimate testimony of a well-loved quilt, right?

Happy Quilting, Friends!

  1. A photo of a baby always attracts me first to a blog in my reader! He is beautiful. What a shock of hair. A friends baby had hair like that. We called it Ernie hair, like Ernie on Sesame Street. Erin did a great job with the piecing and quilting. Is she converted?

  2. Your daughter made such a sweet I Spy, wonderful prints. A quilt little Auggie can grow up with.
