Quilt Camp '14 - Day 1

The bobbins are loaded, the tables, ironing boards and cutting stations have been positioned, and the annual quilt camp is officially ON!

For the second year we are working in the spacious upstairs of Old Town Fabric Shop in Chillicothe. What a great location - so much room and a friendly staff downstairs to fill any needs we might have throughout the week. Cindy Henderson and daughter Kelly Battestin have a huge inventory of fabric, wool, notions and Bernina products that all quilters will love.

So let's see a few of the activities of day 1.

JoAnn is thinking green. She is making a Delectable Mountains quilt in scrappy greens. The pattern is from Kansas Troubles.

Sharon P. had  her Big Blocks already cut out, so by the day's end, she had this creation to add to her collection!

Rarely do I see Kay hand-quilting, but now I have proof in a picture! She put this quilt together from the stash of a dear friend who recently passed away and gave the flimsy to the daughter for Christmas. Her gift for next Christmas is to hand-quilt it! And that is what you see here! Isn't it  pretty?

Sharon R. is making a string quilt from a Jelly Roll of pastel solids. Unfortunately for us, we will not get to see how this turns out, as Sharon is unable to come to camp the rest of the week. I am especially interested as this Jelly Roll is the same as I am using on my project!

You may recall the pastel 9-patch blocks I began at the Canter's Cave retreat back in April. Well, I'd not touched them since. They were top billing for quilt camp. I used Kona Snow as my background fabric and went to work creating this flimsy. I have enough 9-patches left over to make another one, so that is what I plan to do on Day 2!

Lots more pictures to come, so I hope to be back with more tomorrow!

Happy Quilting, Friends!

  1. Love the 9-patch pastel and how you put it together. I bet the string one will be great too.
