Erin's Diamonds - Close Up

Since we are gone for the weekend (this post is scheduled to appear while we are away), I thought I'd just let you look at some closeup shots of the gorgeous Erin's Diamonds.

I am now ready to quilt on the other side of the frame. While I quilt, I frequently find myself thinking about Grandma, the last owner of this frame. She made lots and lots of quilts on this frame - too many to count, for sure. Once when we shopped together, I bought a few pieces of Kaffe Fassett fabric, and her reaction was priceless. She wrinkled up her nose and gave me a quizzical look as if she were certain I'd lost my mind. She was NOT a fan of these bright and bold fabrics. I have to chuckle a little bit to think that the first quilt I do on her old frame is a KF quilt. Even though the fabric wasn't to her liking, I have to believe that she would be happy to know I'm using her old frame.

I do still plan to have my mother quilt a little bit on this, as well as DD Erin. It just seems really important to me that all these generations play a part in this quilt - it represents the link between generations.

Happy Quilting, Friends!

  4. KF fabrics are a bit of a jolt the first time you see them--they are so different from traditional quilting fabrics. I am sure your grandmother would have learned to love them in this beautiful quilt! I love the texture you are adding with your red quilting.

  5. Personally, I am infatuated with KF fabrics. The first time I saw them, I most likely wrinkled up my nose just because they were different and not calico-like. However, the bright colors kept calling me. This is a guess, but I think you grandmother would have warmed to them also. I like the red thread on the very-well pieced diamonds.
