Bridal Quilt Progress

For awhile mid-month, it felt like I had a bazillion PHDs (Projects Half Done) staring at me and, of course, I couldn't make myself work on any of them. I get that way, sometimes. It's as if the volume of finishing tasks paralyzes me, rendering me unable to engage with any project and finish it.

Throw in a long arm machine that begins to act up, an uncooperative computer, and the normal assorted family events  - well, I was fairly inert for several days.

One of the PHDs I really needed to knock out was the bridal quilt we Frienzies are making for Susan's daughter Kenly. We sewed the parts at the end of September, and then I volunteered for the task of sewing all the long strips (shown below) together to complete the quilt top.

Finally, I have completed this task. I really dragged my feet, but it was so easy and straightforward. The fact that it is a king-size quilt top might have played a part in my reluctance to finish this off - all that bulk! Kings are really hard to handle just because of the mass of fabric one must manage.

Neither of these pictures adequately shows a pretty quilt and that is because of the enormous size. Making matters worse is that a good bit of trimming needs to be done off the sides. I really have no place large enough - or well lit enough - to take a decent picture. You'll just have to trust me that it really is a pretty quilt, in a very subtle, monochromatic way.

I now need to hand this off to one of the other Frienzies who will take care of the next stage of finishing - professional long arming. Going into the Christmas holidays, I doubt this is the most optimal time for us, but oh well.

I have been knocking out a few other PHDs - borders for Autumn Leaves; the growth chart for Cate; quilting and binding Alpine; Hettie's baby quilt - just to name a few. I was also making a little smock for Cate and starting another baby quilt for a friend of daughter Emma.

Maybe now I am back on track. I sewed a good bit on the newest baby quilt yesterday, and this week I hope to long arm a couple of quilts.

And, best news of all - I've solved my computer woes! With the help of several readers and other bloggers who were having similar problems, I am once again fully functioning!

Hope you all have a productive week!

Bridal Quilt Delivered

The newlyweds have surely celebrated 6 months of wedded bliss by now, and at last they have the quilt that Sharon and I made for them.

Back in the summer, Sharon and I cooked up a plan to whip out a quilt fast-fast-fast for our friend's daughter. Dee, the friend, was involved in the color selection and helped with passing info back and forth as to Liz and Brian's various preferences. We came up with very large HSTs in peach, mint green, light gray and white. These were the wedding colors, too, by the way.

When all three of us (Sharon, Dee and I) met in Columbus earlier this month, we handed off the quilt to Dee. She then held it until the following weekend when she'd next be seeing Liz and Brian. And now the circle is complete.

Wayne the dog doesn't look too impressed, but Liz and Brian seem very pleased. We weren't as fast-fast-fast as we'd hoped, but we eventually delivered on the gift.

Dee has been making a couple of baby quilts for some of Liz's friends - I will soon post some pics of those, so stay tuned!

Another Wedding

This afternoon we will head up to Columbus for the wedding of Pam's daughter Carly. You recall, I'm sure, the Frienzie bridal shower we had last month at which time we gave Carly her red and white quilt. You can click here to see it.

Well, I've been remiss in posting pictures of several pillows made to match this quilt. We had a few leftovers of Carly's fabric, so we began stitching. I was there when the top one was made; I'm not sure who all was involved in the remaining ones. Regardless, these will look great on their new quilt.

Happy Wedding Day, Carly and Jimmy!

Another Bridal Quilt

We Frienzies have had wedding fever this year. Last July, Hettie's daughter Kaitlyn got married. Just a little over a month ago, my own dear Erin tied the knot. And coming up in about 2 weeks, Pam's daughter Carly will walk down the aisle. And in true Frienzie form, each bride will have a quilt made by the loving hands of these 8 women.

On Sunday, we had our regular monthly get-together and  combined it with a bridal shower for Carly. We met at a local restaurant, thus saving the burden of food prep for another time. It was a wonderful afternoon, and I think Carly loves her new quilt. Take a look at the progression of the big reveal! Fun!
