Local Art Show

Concerned citizens of our little town are trying their darnedest to revitalize a decaying historic downtown. Determined to save old buildings and attract new business,  new life is slowly returning to this formerly bustling town. 3G hosts several events throughout the year to boost Greenfield's comeback.

Tonight the 3G organization is sponsoring a Wine Walk and Art Show. Sounds like a good time, right? I have entered three little quilts as "art" - yes, I think they qualify. I wanted to show you what I've entered, and while we walk this evening (and sip our wine), I will take some photos and share those later.

 All three of these little gems have been hanging on various walls in the sewing area. I've described them in previous posts, but this post will provide a little recap.

Tossing a few little quilts around on the kitchen table makes for a festive look. I did a whole post on some of my little creations awhile back. Click to revisit here.

All were machine pieced and machine quilted. I would venture to say that all were made on more of a whim than on any specific plan or goal. All were made from existing stash fabrics, often scraps that were just left out on the table from the last thing I made. Don't judge! *grin*

When I filled out the paperwork to enter these little quilts in the 3G event, there was a space on the form for indicating if the pieces were for sale. I considered this momentarily, but I don't think so. While I wouldn't mind making money on my quilts, I really like these three little creations. I wouldn't even know what kind of price to put on them, actually.

Scrappy Stars, aka Pincushion Stars, is especially dear. If you read this post, you will see that it provided me my one big claim to fame at that 2016 Ross County Fair.

Mini-Quilt Parade

 I have no new content to share at the moment. I am procrastinating BIG TIME about quilting the wedding quilt for Sarah and Jason (due by the 20th, FYI). And I really want to go start on a new sew along quilt - the patriotic one I mentioned. Plus, I had a brainstorm earlier - the sew along quilt would look great in my Corey Yoder fabric scraps! I am chomping at the bit to dig into that, as well.

So, with no new material to share, I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and show - in one long picture parade - most of the mini-quilts I've made in the past 10-11 years. Funny footnote: Back when I was visiting my grandmother weekly, I often took a project to work on while we chatted. I recall her once asking my why I wasted my time on "those little things." I was taken aback at her admonishment! In retrospect, I think I understand where she was coming from. All through her life, quilts were necessities, and all available sewing time needed to be devoted to the demands of keeping the family warm through the winter. To put so much time toward making these little quilts probably seemed a bit frivolous to her, I imagine.

Ah, how times change.

Work Room Vibes

Outdoors today was gray, rainy, sleety, breezy and foggy. Total ugh. But in my sewing room, the brightness shines!

I have mini-quilts on the wall. Just random ones that I have made over the years. A Sunbonnet Sue sits in the chair on a pillow that Grandma made for DD Emma back when she was a baby - 26 or 27 years ago.

On the design wall is half of Diagonal Madness, the Kaffe Fassett quilt I started last fall. The plan is to get back to finishing it as soon as I have my current project done.

The current project is draped over the table - Summer Nights, a pattern by CottonWay. I worked on it all day today, which made for a very satisfying business, I must say. Those sleet and rain showers just pounded away on my window, but my machine was humming right along.

This last picture shows a bit more of the design wall with the scrappy project underneath Diagonal Madness. I definitely will be getting back to that, too, as time permits. I really love the way those scrappy bits are coming together.

I hope you had a sunshine-y day even if you were in the pervasive gray weather we've had lately.

Simple Friendships 2 Quilt Along

Yesterday, author and fabric designer Kim Diehl posted her final installment of her mini-quilt-along on Instagram and Facebook. It has been a fun ride, and I am happy to show you my finished top today.

Every Monday for the past 5 weeks, we have been given instructions for a couple of blocks. It has been fun using her signature fabrics/colors as well as learning a few tips and tricks that she has shared along the way.

Last week while we sewed at Terry's, most of us Frankfort girls worked on these blocks. We decided early on that we would be a mini-group doing a mini-quilt-along for a mini-quilt. Sounds good to me!

I have a tub-full of remaining fabric, as this barely made a dent in the little Kim Diehl collection I've hoarded. I believe I will peruse her books - I have several - to see what I want to make with the rest. I may have a hard time making up my mind, as just about all her designs appeal to me.

Next up for this mini-quilt, is spray-basting and big-stitch hand quilting. I believe I can add that to the growing number of projects for my baseball-watching evenings.
