Local Art Show

Concerned citizens of our little town are trying their darnedest to revitalize a decaying historic downtown. Determined to save old buildings and attract new business,  new life is slowly returning to this formerly bustling town. 3G hosts several events throughout the year to boost Greenfield's comeback.

Tonight the 3G organization is sponsoring a Wine Walk and Art Show. Sounds like a good time, right? I have entered three little quilts as "art" - yes, I think they qualify. I wanted to show you what I've entered, and while we walk this evening (and sip our wine), I will take some photos and share those later.

All three of these little gems have been hanging on various walls in the sewing area. I've described them in previous posts, but this post will provide a little recap.

Tossing a few little quilts around on the kitchen table makes for a festive look. I did a whole post on some of my little creations awhile back. Click to revisit here.

Pink Lemonade

Scrappy Stars (it's real name is Pincushion Stars)

4-Patch Scrappy

All were machine pieced and machine quilted. I would venture to say that all were made on more of a whim than on any specific plan or goal. All were made from existing stash fabrics, often scraps that were just left out on the table from the last thing I made. Don't judge! *grin*

When I filled out the paperwork to enter these little quilts in the 3G event, there was a space on the form for indicating if the pieces were for sale. I considered this momentarily, but I don't think so. While I wouldn't mind making money on my quilts, I really like these three little creations. I wouldn't even know what kind of price to put on them, actually.

Scrappy Stars, aka Pincushion Stars, is especially dear. If you read this post, you will see that it provided me my one big claim to fame at that 2016 Ross County Fair.

Click on the links under each individual quilt to read odd bits and details on when/how the quilts were constructed.

That's all for today, Peeps! Come on back to see pics of the Wine Walk and Art Show!

Freshening Up

Never in the nearly 38 years of house-keeping have I been accused of being a fussy decorator. My style is more in line with getting something together that works and then leaving it for a time - like maybe 20 years?

Well, with big stuff, yes, maybe. But as for smaller decorating touches, I do like to occasionally freshen up the decor and change out some of my little quilts to reflect the current season. Since we are quickly coming up on the Fourth, it seemed a good time to retire some quilts to storage while bringing out those reflective of summer and patriotism.

The door exiting our main living area into the garage is metal, so I have two magnetic clips there for hanging little quilts to fill the space. This red, white and blue star is one I made at quilt camp in 2012 and perfectly suits this space on the door. It also perfectly suits me in that it is not fussy, is quite understated and subdued. I enjoy putting it out each year. The pattern is by Thimbleberries, although I think I modified it somewhat.

For our kitchen table, (which is in the same room as the door, above) I have placed Pink Lemonade, a little quilt also made in 2012, with one of Lori's little quilt alongs. (I have searched my archives for this quilt, but have found few informative posts; perhaps you can search Lori's.)

This is such a happy little quilt. I like it so much that I have even considered making another one in some different colors. This pink and cheddar one is aptly named Pink Lemonade, and it perfectly exemplifies summertime.

I need to get busy! Many things remain on my to-do list!

My January UFO

Coming up on Friday, the Frankfort girls will meet at JoAnn's for our regular 9-noon session. Since it is the first get-together of February, we will be showing our completed January UFOs for the little UFO challenge we are having this calendar year.

Mine was to quilt and bind the little doll quilt called Pink Lemonade, which I made in a quilt along sponsored by Lori at Humble Quilts back in January and February of 2012. I have made several of her little quilts - there are teeny-tiny pieces, but who cares when you're making a doll quilt? I like the intricate nature of her little quilts, and then you throw in all that wonderful scrappiness and you have a winning combination!

On Friday afternoon, I sat down with the new Bernina and her walking foot and got right to work. It took me no time at all to cross-hatch quilt this little gem, and in the evening while watching television, I stitched down the binding.

The little doll quilts that Lori shares with us are such fun, and coincidentally, she has one going right now! It is called Midwinter Blues, and while I have not begun it, I do plan on joining in.

Here is a list of all the ones I've done with Lori:
1. Pink Lemonade (hand-pieced, machine quilted and finished)
2. Midnight Stars (machine-pieced, hand-quilted and finished)
3. Cheddar and Crackers (hand-pieced and still a flimsy)
4. Abundance (machine-pieced, machine-quilted and finished)
5. Faithful (machine-pieced, machine-quilted and finished)

If you want to see these, I am pretty sure that they will show up if you put the name in the search box over on my sidebar. Or if you like browsing, look through the year tabs at the top to see finished quilts since 2010.

Good Monday Morning!

Oh my goodness, what an absolutely beautiful day we are having here in southern Ohio! The mild winter is giving us April days in February, and it is wonderful! I am planning to get in a 2-mile walk later this afternoon. Doesn't that sound refreshing?

Today would normally find me quilting with Sharon P, but she is sick, doggone it! I was with her on Saturday evening and she was coming down with something, then. Get well soon, my friend! I am going to be sewing all by myself today.

On Friday, the Frankfort quilty girls came for some stitching. JoAnn was absent, but the remaining 4  had a nice visit over sticky rolls and coffee. Here are the projects we worked on.

Sheryll stitched this applique basket for a really pretty quilt she's working on. Here's the pattern:

I should have written down the name and date of the magazine, but I regretfully did not. This is quite an appealing quilt to me, and even though I tend to avoid applique quilts, I think I would like to try a black, beige, gold and tan color combination. Those churn dash blocks are pretty and would pair nicely with 9-patches, also in this quilt. I could just eliminate the appliqued baskets, perhaps?? Well, I love this quilt in these colors, nonetheless, and Sheryll's work is always neat as a pin.

ADDED LATER: a wonderful pay-it-forward kind of thing! AnnieO left a comment identifying the magazine! McCall's Quilting, September/October 2010. Annie is actually also working on this very same project and has it pictured on her blog, here! How's that for synchronicity?

Terry continued working on her needlework from the last several get-togethers. The project is a month-by-month affair; this (obviously) is for February.

A quick side note - Terry, bless her heart, is doing the quilting for me on the flannel quilt we are giving to Alexis, the young cancer patient I've recently been blogging about. Aren't friends just the greatest?? Read about Alexis here and her see quilt, here.

Sharon O. was doing some hand-piecing, and I love, love, love the yellow and blue combination of colors.

Sharon, help! I don't think I recall what this is going to become! Did we even talk about that? I am really going to have to start writing things down; my memory just goes blank sometimes.

Above is a recently finished wall hanging that Sharon showed us. It was a kit purchase made in the 80s or 90s, she said. Some of you will recognize that red plaid from your own work from that era, correct? I sure do. And I imagine I've still got a bit of that fabric up in my stash, as well. Anyway, Sharon was in the mood to get some UFO projects crossed off her to-do list. Way to go!

I continued hand-piecing the little doll quilt called Pink Lemonade that I began in January when Lori at Humble Quilts put up her annual quilt-along. Most of those who participated have finished theirs and shown their work weeks ago, but I just put the final stitches into my quilt top this morning.

This is the 3rd doll quilt I've done with Humble Quilts. Cheddar and Crackers was from early 2010; Midnight Stars was from early 2011. Now I have Pink Lemonade for early 2012. I love 'em!
