March Lone Star Quilt Along

Today is the first Saturday of the month, so that means it's Lone Star time!

Sue Abrey, aka Quilt Sue, of Quilt Times is our hostess this month. I'm eager to see the progress being made on the Lone Stars (and all the variations) that we've been working on.

Head on over to Sue's blog and sign in to her linky to share your Lone Star progress (or lack thereof!) with the rest of us! I have had so many other projects to work on that I've done very little on my Broken Star.

I did begin inserting the white squares into the outer starburst diamond units. I figured it would be a good idea to get the bias edges stabilized with the straight of grain. I'm still experiencing some unease with the excessive stretching that comes with so much bias edge. I just keep plugging away, though, hoping that the biases will take care of themselves. I hope I'm not setting myself up for some big-time headaches down the road!

I really should just buckle down and get the parts of this quilt all connected. It's probably the only way I will be able to see how well the bias edges will behave.

Here is the center star with the setting squares attached.

My inability to get this center portion to lay any flatter has me more than a little bit concerned.

So, I will plod on, keeping my fingers crossed! Hopefully, I won't regret it!

  1. The stretch is my major concern too. I know I've had one or two pieces distort, but all-in-all, I don't think it's too bad. Of course, only time will tell.

I'd love to know how big your star is?

  2. I didn't get much done on mine Star either this past month. It's nice to know I'm in good company. :-)
